Chateau FuissePouilly Fuissé Les Combettes 2015

One of three single-vineyard wines from this historic estate, this is structured, tight and with a crisp apple and citrus character. Against this is the richness of the wine and its potential for aging. It is a taut wine while also richly fruity. Drink from 2020.

A racy style, with bracing acidity setting the pace for apple, lemon and baking spice flavors. Persistent, leaving a tactile sensation on the finish. Best from 2018 through 2024.

(aged entirely in young but not new oak barrels): Pale, bright yellow. Fresher on the nose than the Tête de Cru, offering scents of peach, apple and flowers; more evidence of limestone lift here. Suave, fine-grained, energetic wine with excellent density of texture but also a lovely light touch for the year. As tightly wound as the 2016 example but already shows a seamless texture and considerable richness. Lovely penetrating, long, tactile wine with energetic citrus and orchard fruit flavors supported by stony minerality. This still needs a year or two to open up.

The 2015 Pouilly Fuisse les Combettes comes from limestone soil, with a small proportion of clay, in a small valley close to a forest that tends toward greater diurnal temperature variations. It is vinified 100% in used barrels aged between three and five years old. It has a crisp, chalk-scented bouquet with touches of linden and shaved almond. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry, quite linear and taut, cohesive with light touches of walnut and ginger toward the persistent finish. This is one of the spicier releases from Château Fuissé in 2015.
